By the end of the day on January 15, Islanders will know who has been selected to fill the recently vacated City Council seat of Dave Ward. Although the actual selection process will happen behind closed doors in Executive Session, the public is invited to attend the immediately preceding applicant interviews.
There are six applicants for the Central Ward vacancy: Monica Aufrecht, John Green, Joe Levan, Gregory Millerd, Gary Pettersen, and Michael Scott. You can read more about them here. You can also read their completed applications here.
The special meeting will be broadcast live via the City website. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber. Public comment will not be accepted.
The term of the vacated position will commence as soon as a candidate is appointed by a majority vote of the City Council. The term will expire after the November 3, 2015, general election.
